O Consistency, where art thou?

Let's look back a week or so. A 4-1 record, the top offense in the league, solid defensively. The going was good. Fast forward to now. Three game losing streak, shut out twice, mounting injuries, porous defensively. A team in trouble.

Not helping matters was what looked like a win in one of the matches against archrival South Calgary, only to be yanked away due to a technical glitch. Talk about a kick in the groin.

What's happening? Well for one, Theodore has given a glimpse of what life with him in nets will be like in RHL17... but it shouldn't be happening now.

Two: Cammalleri and King are two of the leaders on offense. Don't get me wrong, it's great to see support players producing. But they can't be depended upon. Case in point- both are now injured for extended periods.

The question becomes what about the stars? Smyth and Arnott, the two highest paid forwards: 2g each in 8 games. Not good enough. Conroy: 0g 4a and a -4. Not good enough. Bell: 1a. Not good enough.

Consistency... every team's dream. Sigh...

Double whammy

Alex Radulov and Devin Setoguchi were both cut from their respective NHL squad today. Damn.

Now we'll find out if there is any truth to the rumour that Radulov could be enticed to return to Russia. I suspect the Russian Federation will try and pull out all the stops to get him to come home. Payback can be a bitch... and I'm sure the Ruskies would love nothing more than to stick it to the NHL after the Malkin incident. I doubt Radulov will bite. He's lived over here for a couple of years and his jump to the Q proves that he is committed to the NHL, IMHO.

As for Setoguchi, hopefully we'll see him back with the Sharks later this year and for the playoffs. Hopefully he'll keep his focus, especially with the outlook of another season of 18-hour bus rides in the Dub.
