Are or Arnott the newest Eagles the solution to the team’s woes?

Mired in a 5-game losing streak in which the Eagles have been severely outclassed in almost every department, the Eagles shook things up today by acquiring Jason Arnott and Wayne Primeau from the Guelph Spectre for Kyle Calder, Tomas Surovy and prospect Joel Kwiatkowski. The Eagles also obtain cash in the deal.

“This is not a desperate move by a desperate team. We’ve been trying to acquire a number one centre since the auction,” commented GM Bourdeau. “I think the offensive potential of the team hasn’t been realized this season because we expected too much from guys that weren’t ready for the roles we asked them to play. This deal should take some of the pressure off Cammalleri, Comrie, Stajan and Conroy to be the go-to guy down the middle. Now they can focus on what they each bring to the team without trying to fill a role suited for someone else. Primeau should also help stabilize our dismal penalty kill, and he brings a great work ethic to the squad that he can role model to the young guys.”

The older generation of Eagle fans may have a faint recollection of Jason Arnott. He was the team’s 2nd round draft choice in the first-ever draft held by the RHL, but was not taken by the squad when the league re-started. Arnott joins his 9th team in his 15-year career (242G 248A 590Pt).

“It’s tough to leave the Champion Conference, but I’m excited to get a chance to be part of the solution in Edmonton,” explained Arnott. “Hopefully what I bring to the table will help the Eagles make that jump to the Premier elite.”

While the Eagles filled two needs today, more is expected from Edmonton as they look to strengthen the young corps of blueliners. While reliable through most of the first 1/3 of the season, their collective inexperience is starting to show as the rigours of a full RHL season set in.

Arnott and Primeau are expected to meet the team in Guelph tomorrow as the Eagles start the next chapter of RHL15 against the Reapers.

  • Arnott, Conroy, Primeau down the middle, sweet. So does this mean the Comrie rumors are alive again or is he gonna be playing wing?

  • As a Champs team that sees the best player in the deal leave the conference, I welcome the deal. ;)

Seriously, Arnott will be a great addition (and Primeau shouldn't be overlooked either). With the Premier standings so tight (6 pts separating #2 through #7), a lot of teams will be disappointed to see the Eagles get significantly stronger.

  • Yup, disappointed guy right here. A trade like this, plus a slump like mine may result in knee jerk reaction and increase the trade action in Yellowknife, who knows.

  • Comrie is on the wing--for now. As I alluded to in my post, I hope Arnott's pressence can jumpstart some of my wingers to produce as they should be.

It would be interesting to see Richard's goal expectation report for all my forwards... I suspect only a couple of then are producing as they should.

RF - Is it possible to run your script just on one team?

  • I'd welcome a RHLAnalysis-like site with Richard's stats analysis on it. :)
