Eagles break losing streak; new players have immediate impact

Guelph, ON (CP) - Jason Arnott could not have netted his first goal in an Eagle uniform at a better time.

Down 2-0 early in the third period against the Guelph Reapers, it looked like Edmonton was headed towards it's 6th straight loss and a sub .500 record. Cue Arnott and what will hopefully be his first of many impact plays. Taking a pass from linemate Mark Parrish at the Reaper blueline, the big man willed himself between Don Sweeney and Pavel Kubina and rifled a shot over Sean Burke's glove to make it a 2-1 game.

The play brought life to the Eagle bench as they began taking it to the bewildered Reapers. Six minutes later, Shawn McEachern knotted the game at 2 by stuffing a rebound past Burke. Then the Eagles' first half surprise, Mike Cammalleri, completed the comeback by deflecting a Nick Boynton slapshot for his team-leading 13th goal with just over two minutes left.

"It was great to get that first game under my belt," commented Arnott in the massive media scrum following the game. "I felt good out there, and playing with such quality guys as Parry [Parrish] and Mac [McEachern] helped a lot. I mean that pass from Parry on my goal was right on my tape while I was in full stride."

"It was an important two points, no doubt," said the Eagle coach. "But Guelph is hurting right now. We should of never been down 2-0 in the first place. We need to start burying our chances, cause our misses are killing us right now. But our guys derserve credit for fighting back instead of folding up the tent."

Arnott finished with 1 goal on 4 shots in 17 minutes of icetime. Wayne Primeau, also in his first game since the trade, was a +1 with 4 shots in 11 minutes. Eagle fans will get their first look in person at the newest players later this week as the team takes on the Waterloo Thundercats at the Nest.
